School Visits

Bring your school group for a tour of the City of Perth Library. Self-guided and tours guided by Library staff are available, although guided tours are not available on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Groups are welcome to visit on these days, but due to our regular programming the Children’s Floor will be very busy.

Guided visits

The Library offers guided tours for school groups from pre-primary through to high school. Tours are conducted by the Youth Services Team and can be customised according to the age, ability and interests of your students.

Library tour (20 minutes)

This tour will take your group around the Library's public areas, providing information about the collections on each floor. The tour will focus on the floor that is most appropriate for your students.

Library tour and reading (40 minutes)

This tour will take your group around the Library's public areas, providing information about the collections on each floor. The tour will focus on the floor that is most appropriate for your students. The tour will be followed by a reading of some of our favourite stories.

Note: Tour groups access the Library via the stairs. Lifts are available if required, but are not recommended for large groups.

Please contact our Youth Services Librarians to book a tour.

Self-guided visits

Schools are welcome to run self-guided library visits for groups of students. As groups can be disruptive, it is important to let us know when you are planning your visit so we can ensure there are no clashes with scheduled programmes or other groups. Please contact our Youth Services Librarians.

Plan your visit

Meeting point

If the weather is fine we recommend assembling on the lawn between St Georges Cathedral and the Library. A Youth Services Team member will meet you five minutes before your booked tour or programme starts. If the weather is inclement, assemble students in the Library foyer by the lifts on the Ground Floor. Please take care to ensure students are not blocking either the lift or stair entrances.

Conduct in the Library

School tours and presentations take place alongside standard Library operations. Please encourage your students to maintain the quiet atmosphere. Students remain the responsibility of teachers at all times.

Food

Food and drink are allowed inside the Library, however there are limited spaces for large groups to sit. The Library's front lawn is recommended for breaks (weather permitting). Alternatively, the tree area on Level four can accommodate your group.

Baggage

If you have booked a tour, the Library can store school bags for the duration of your visit. Please inform us if bag storage will be required when you book.
