Feuerzangenbowle, as it is traditionally known, is a German alcoholic drink for which a rum-soaked sugarloaf is set on fire and caramelises into the mulled wine.
The fire punch is prepared in a bowl, similar to a fondue. The bowl is filled with heated Mulled Wine, which has been spiced with Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Star Anise, Cloves and Orange Peel.
A metal grate is placed across the top of the bowl to hold the Zuckerhut (literally means sugar hat). The sugar is soaked with rum and set alight causing the sugar to caramelise.
