AGWA Historical
Explore AGWA's early works in the Collection including the iconic Down on his luck by Frederick McCubbin.
Presenting works from the 1700s to the 1910s, the AGWA Historical exhibition features examples of some of the key art movements of the nineteenth century.
Many works take landscape as their subject, and the artistic approaches range from a precise observation of nature to impressionist works capturing the fleeting effects of light and atmosphere.
Also on view are works that tell a story, and portraits that reveal the inner psychological state of their subjects.
See the 'ten historical paintings to see before you die', including works by Frederick McCubbin, John Longstaff, Hilda Rix Nicholas, and Spencer Gore.
